Last month was an exciting month too, with several game reviews, videos, and command usage tutorials (under software, security, and commands categories) If you have been to the MLUG website lately, you probably noticed a lot of new articles. If you haven't been lately, you are missing out (and this is probably my own fault for not publishing content on a regular basis -- I am working on fixing that this year). Speaking of.... The February article publication schedule so-far is: Feb 1 - The Ultimate Linux Password Management Guide Part 1 intro Feb 2 - The Ultimate Linux Password Management Guide Part 2 keepassx Feb 3 - The Ultimate Linux Password Management Guide Part 3 gpass Feb 4 - The Ultimate Linux Password Management Guide Part 4 pwsafe Feb 5 - The Ultimate Linux Password Management Guide Part 5 cpm Feb 6 - The Ultimate Linux Password Management Guide Part 6 kedpm Feb 7 - The Ultimate Linux Password Management Guide Part 7 gorilla Feb 8 - The Ultimate Linux Password Management Guide Part 8 gpg (with scripts) Feb 9 - The Ultimate Linux Password Management Guide Part 9 revelation Feb 10 - The Ultimate Linux Password Management Guide Part 10 mypasswordsafe Feb 11 - The Ultimate Linux Password Management Guide Part 11 gringotts Feb 12 - The Ultimate Linux Password Management Guide Part 12 ccrypt Feb 13 - ???? What I would like to know from those who registered early is: what would you like to see on the MLUG web site? Do you have any ideas I could use for articles or reviews, anything you need help understanding, new or cool software/games/distros I should review, or is there something you would like to have published on the web site? Just hit reply and let me know Look forward to hearing from you...and please don't hesitate to participate in this mailing list. If you have a question, send an email to this list and ask for help. If you have something you want to share, by all means go ahead. I originally created the MLUG web site to help and educate new linux users and I have never once lost sight of that goal. -- -----BEGIN GEEK SIGNATURE----- \| ascii: Ed Wiget \| hex: 65 64 20 77 69 67 65 74 \| bin: 01100101 01100100 00100000 01110111 \| .....: 01101001 01100111 01100101 01110100 \| m: 6064071838 l: 6067591175 e:ewiget at rhpstudios.com \| Version: 3.12 \| GIT d- s--: a C++++ UL++++ P+ L++++ E--- W+++ N++ o+++ K- w--- \| O- M+ V PS+ PE Y+ PGP+ t 5 X- R- tv- b+ DI-- D \| G e+ h++ r++ y** ------END GEEK SIGNATURE------ : The BOFH for today is..... Two-factor authentication basically requires "something you know", i.e. your password, along with "something you have", i.e. this is generally a usb stick/thumbdrive/floppy disk/ etc containing a key (key being a file created that contains an encrypted random digital signature -- similar to how keepassx can be configured for single factor login (password) or two-factor login (password and key)) Two-factor authentication works on the principal that someone may know your password, but only you should have the key which can't be forged. Without both, you are not authenticated. Additional ideas I had: creating an encrypted partition for your home folder or additional storage (a must on laptops), and biometric authentication (I had this working about 7 years ago but then the fingerprint scanner hardware went bad -- I need to replace it to write a new article) -- -----BEGIN GEEK SIGNATURE----- \| ascii: Ed Wiget \| hex: 65 64 20 77 69 67 65 74 \| bin: 01100101 01100100 00100000 01110111 \| .....: 01101001 01100111 01100101 01110100 \| m: 6064071838 l: 6067591175 e: ewiget at rhpstudios.com \| Version: 3.12 \| GIT d- s--: a C++++ UL++++ P+ L++++ E--- W+++ N++ o+++ K- w--- \| O- M+ V PS+ PE Y+ PGP+ t 5 X- R- tv- b+ DI-- D \| G e+ h++ r++ y** ------END GEEK SIGNATURE------ : The BOFH for today is..... need to wrap system in aluminum foil to fix problem : BOFH based on http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~ballard/bofh/ -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
