For some time now, firefox on sabayon linux has been using 100% cpu for up to several minutes after it is opened.  It becomes unusable during this time.  I have been trying for weeks to figure out what was wrong, even resorting to doing google searches and asking in the sabayon forums, irc channels, and devel mailing list.

Some of the recommendations were similar to the ones I posted in the previous article - speeding up firefox, but nothing seemed to work.

However, I finally found the root cause of this problem.  To fix it, got to Tools - Add-Ons.  Select the languages tab.  Disable all the languages you do not need on your login account.  After all of them are disabled, restart firefox.

Fixed.....

that worked for several weeks, but yesterday firefox started acting weird again....this time it opens and runs fine but randomly will spike to 100% cpu usage where it might stay for a minute or two...then it throttles back down to normal until it randomly does it again........if I get time, I will attempt to find the root cause, in the meantime, seamonkey and konqueror work for me as alternatives.
